This topic will serve as a general information area for the upcoming factions event I am trying to put together. Check back frequently for updates.
Summary
Basically every guild possible will join Atlantic factions for one week and fight like there is no tomorrow.
What is Factions
In basic terms, Factions is split into 4 separate groups that all compete to control Felucca towns. You can choose any group to fight for. They are the True Britannias, Minax, Shadowlords and Council of Mages. Faction fighting only takes place on the Felucca facet. All opposing faction members are orange to you and you can gain points for killing them.
Much more information will be available soon on UOGuide. The current faction information on UO.com is horribly out of date in some cases so don't rely on it.
Date
Planned for some time in mid to late March.
Issues
There are a couple issues with the event which the UO developers will have to resolve. I think that if enough participation occurs then they will make the following changes.
- One Character Rule - Currently you are only allowed one character in factions per shard. This rule absolutely has to be lifted in order for this event to proceed as planned. I am going to make a case where the rule is changed to you can only join one faction per shard but have any amount of characters in it.
- Faction Member Balancer - In order to prevent one faction from outgrowing the others there is a mechanism in place that will stop people from joining. So if you say go to join with ~600 people in your guild (which HOT has) it won't let you. I am also requesting that this balancer be removed.
- Beneficial Acts in Trammel - Currently faction players can not have beneficially acts such as healing and resurrection performed on them by non-faction players in Trammel facets. This will mostly be a barrier for guilds who frequent Trammel but may want to join in with some of the fighting. If any guild has an issue with this let me know and I will bring it up with the developers. Otherwise I will focus on the first two changes only.
PVP Tournament
Why just hold a single event when it could be several? I'm going to look into organizing a PVP tournament, probably to be held very shortly after the Factions event. There would be big prizes. I might try and get Vine Cord Sandles for the winner. It will probably be the biggest tournament since the Tournament of Champions held 5+ years ago by OSI.

If your guild wants to confirm their participation in this event either private message or ICQ me.
Volunteer Help
This event is going to be too large for just myself to handle. I am looking for dependable volunteers to handle the following tasks.
- Factions Articles on UOGuide - There needs to be an extensive and update to date resource for people to learn about factions. Currently the best place to put such a guide would be on UOGuide.com. Anyone can add/edit pages on UOGuide. To get started see the Factions page.
- PVP Tournament Manager - This person will be responsible for putting together the rules, brackets, gathering a list of participants, advertising the tournament, etc. This will require a lot of work and it would be a good thing if this person had previous tournament experience. Please PM or ICQ me if you want to be the tournament manager.
Spreading Word of the Event
I have setup a redirect at http://www.hot-guild.com/faction which will point to this topic. So if you want to give out information to people on ICQ or in-game all you have to do is tell them to visit http://www.hot-guild.com/faction.
Former UO Players Interested in Participating
If you are a former UO player who has not played within the last 2 or 3 years don't fret! With a little extra effort you can be trained, geared and ready to go. Basic equipment can be provided free of charge. If you want to invest in better equipment it can be done really cheap, as little as $10. More details and guides will be available soon for former players.
Teaser Movie Credit
I just want to make clear that the event teaser movie was created not by me (JC the Builder). The original can be found here. The author has released the source code and given permission for other people to remix it, which is what I have done. I rewrote the story and changed out some images.
